Barcelona
The aim of
this meeting was to do research on own national traditions and celebrations
and to learn about the other countries’ traditions.
We were able
to visit Barcelona just in time to join the celebrations of St George’s day the
24th of April. At school
there was no teaching that day. They arranged a cake competition, a play showing the battle between the dragon and St George,
who finally saved the princess, there were book sales , poetry readings ,
music, games in the school yard, basketball games , and the local radio reported
from school all day.
The Comenius guests were interviewed on the radio, where they told what the project was about, what they had experienced and learned, and how they liked Barcelona.

The first day together
On our first day, we had a Town Rally through Sant Just. In that way, we had a quick overview over this part of Barcelona, the area where most of the students at our partner school Sant Just Desverne, live. The Rally was full of activities, it was a very fun way to get to know each other!

Presentations
Spanish Group - presentations |
The next day we had time for our presentations. You can see them below. Enjoy:)
All
countries had done good research and presented power points, films and photo
stories. Unfortunately, we had problems with the Internet and weren't able to
show all the presentations this time, so Norway posted their stories on the Facebook group, which has more than 200 members.
Denmark
told about the background of the Danish tradition of "Fastelavn", in English "Shrovetide" . This is also celebrated in Norway, but in a different way. We had an authentic Shrovetide celebration in the school yard. After
beating the "cat" with a stick, we got lots of sweets!
Germany
told us about the Oktoberfest, a tradition mainly celebrated in the Bavarian region, about German Christmas traditions, and other traditions from Bavaria/Germany.

The Barcelonetta
After lunch at school, we all went to the Barcelonetta, the famous beach in Barcelona. We had lovely weather, enough time to have fun together, and some of the students also had a short bath....!
Visit to the Old town
On Thursday, we went to see the Old town of Barcelona, guided by Pau, one of the teachers at IES, we saw the rest of the Roman walls, the Barcelona Cathedral (The Cathedral of the Holy Cross and Saint Eulalia, which is a Gothic cathedral and seat of the Archbishop of Barcelona, constructed from the 13th to 15th centuries), and the smaller Santa Maria del Mar, an imposing church in the Ribera district of Barcelona, built between 1329 and 1383.
Afterwards, the students had a little time to go shopping on their own, in Barcelona city.
Time to say good bye...
For the farewell party, the students and the hosts prepared different Spanish dishes at home, and brought it to school. We had a good meal and played games until it was time to go home.
It is always hard to leave new friends after spending great days together, but many students still keep in touch with each other.

Digital storytelling
Before we went to Barcelona, the Norwegian students learned to work with digital storytelling. We wanted to try a new way to tell our story.
First we did research and collected facts and photos.
Then the students made their texts and story boards. Finally, we used Photo Story 3 to make our presentations.
It was a lot of work, but the products were good! :)
But frst of all we made story boards |
and wrote the text |
¨
The Norwegian students wrote this text after the meeting. They also held a presentation for the rest of the class when they were back at school. Thank you, Sara, Mari, Selina, Selma and André:)
Barcelona
"The Norwegian students arrived at the airport at 6
o’clock. 45 minutes later we arrived in Oslo, to change planes. After a long trip we arrived in Barcelona and waited for a cab. Mari had a box with
her art project; André carried the box, and got stopped by the security. They checked
the box, they thought that it was a bomb in the box, but everything was fine,
Mari had just brought a piece of art!
At the Spanish school there was a sign
that said welcome, with all the names of the international guests! What a warm
welcome!.
The host families and all the students from all
countries sat down and got to know each other. The next was the town rally,
where the students were set in different groups, one from each country.
The next day was St.
Jordi’s day. We saw a play, made by children, about the history behind St. Jordi.
The children’s were dressed up like a dragon, and there were one princess, and
one prince on a horse.
Later, Cathrine, Selina and André were shocked because
they had to play basketball even though they were signed up at volleyball, and
we lost the game. The students learned a Spanish game, it was really cool. It
was really simple there were three ropes and they could only have their feet in
the ground one time between each rope. The ropes were moved more and more.
After the game, Cathrine sat down on a bench and talked with the German
teacher. There were some kids from the Spanish school that came to Cathrine and
started talking. They knew that Cathrine won “Miss Norway.”
We were in Barcelona and looked around, then took
the bus home and went to a bar. At the bar we watched a Barcelona match. We ordered food and something to drink. The cup song was really popular, the
Norwegian students taught the other students how to do it, the knife game was
also very popular.
The next day there
were presentations. The Norwegian students were going to show videos about St.
Lucia, St. Hans and 17. May. The Norwegians presentation failed, the video
wouldn’t play. The Danish students had also a presentation, they had a barrel
with candy inside.
The students went to
Barcelona again, and they were bathing. Louise and Sara were the first one out,
after a little time Selina and André came out too.
The day after that, we also went to Barcelona and
looked at a church. Three of the Norwegian students and the teachers bought
crème Catalanya, and they lost the other students out of sight. The students waited for a
little time and then went shopping. The Norwegian students were together and
they went to a restaurant and bought some food. The same day Mari and André
made food with Montse, Oscar, Deniz, Julia, Christian and more. At the same
time Selina, Selma and Sara went to a shopping mall. All the students gathered
at the school and enjoyed the last night together. After the food they had some
games and of course cup song was one of them, Darling if you love me then smile
and a paper game. Montse and Mari went home, and the rest of the students went
to a bar.
The Norwegian students were the first one to go home. We took a cab to the airport and waited for the plane. When we were
waiting, it was some entertainment on the airport. There were one boy and one
girl that were dancing to Gangnam Style. Selina joined in at the end of the
song.
When we arrived at Oslo, we bought pizza. Then we waited for a little while, and took the plain home to little Karmøy."
